F.I.V.E. launches comprehensive psychedelic facilitator training program with 30 expert instructors
F.I.V.E., a platform providing a centralized hub for education related to the therapeutic and ceremonial uses of the psychedelic 5-MeO-DMT, has opened applications for the first-ever 5-MeO-DMT facilitator training program available to the public.
F.I.V.E.'s training programs provide both online and in-person instruction with an extensive roster of experienced doctors, therapists, educators, and facilitators. F.I.V.E. is a subsidiary of Kaivalya Ventures, Inc.
5-MeO-DMT is a powerful psychoactive compound, traditionally derived from the Sonoran Desert toad Bufo alvarius. 5-MeO-DMT is used in synthetic form by Tandava Retreats, another Kaivalya Ventures company, due to concerns over species conservation and the sustainability of sourcing the substance at scale.
“Undergoing a 5-MeO-DMT ceremony is a profound experience, and it behooves us as facilitators to be armed with the necessary tools to safely guide our participants to and from what could be the most impactful experience of their life,” said Victoria Wueschner, co-founder and president of F.I.V.E.
F.I.V.E.'s Trauma-Informed Facilitator Training is offered in both one-year and three-month formats, with the shorter format intended for those who have already undergone some previous training and wish to strengthen their skills and optimize their ability to serve 5-MeO-DMT. The first cohort will include no more than 20 students in order to maximize instructor time and provide the best possible attention to each student.
"This course is meant to be the most comprehensive and well rounded training program for 5-MeO-DMT that is publicly available,” says Joel Brierre, co-founder of F.I.V.E. “Covering a wide range of topics from the mystical to the clinical, we intend to set a higher bar for 5-MeO-DMT facilitation.”
Course content will include weekly zoom classes, videos, and written content, as well as three week of in-person training at Tandava Retreats in Tepoztlán, Mexico.
F.I.V.E. recommends that applicants have thorough experience with 5-MeO-DMT, preferably having sat at least 10 times and having had at least one year to process and integrate their initial experience. F.I.V.E. emphasizes that the program is intended for individuals who are dedicated to support therapeutic and ceremonial uses of synthetic 5-MeO-DMT.
"Because 5-MeO-DMT is a medicine that works so quickly, it might seem like a quick fix, but it’s not,” says Julia Mirer, M.D., F.I.V.E. instructor and Director of Strategy at Nushama. “In the F.I.V.E. training, what we’re doing is showing practitioners how to create the container, which is really the most important part of the experience. F.I.V.E.’s focus on preparation and integration gives practitioners the tools to spread out the 5-MeO-DMT experience, helping their clients integrate the key insights over time. I chose to teach in this training because they’re the first group I’ve seen really put effort into the container surrounding the medicine."
“I’m honored to take part as an instructor in the 5-MeO-DMT Facilitator Training program presented by F.I.V.E.,” says psychopharmacology consultant Ben Malcolm, PharmD, MPH. “The comprehensive program we’ve created is a unique collaborative effort bringing together educators with decades of collective experience. For individuals aiming to take their facilitation practice to a new level, this program is unrivaled in its breadth, depth, and specificity of knowledge.”
"F.I.V.E.’s practitioner training is a world-class resource, and I’m proud to contribute as a teacher,” says Rak Razam, 5-MeO-DMT facilitator, teacher, and media maker. "5-MeO-DMT is more than a molecule, threaded throughout nature, in both plants and animals, including endogenously in humans. Its ability to reduce the ego and the mind, and to catalyze mystical experiences, suggests that it can fundamentally help heal and transform."
The full list of course faculty includes: Chad Charles, Kaira Mayestra, Rak Razam, Daniel Figueroa (Coñejo), Merrill Ward, Ben Malcom, Flor Bollini, Shiri Godasi, Quilley Powers, Colette Condorcita, Charlotte James, Dr. Jeff Tarrant, Dr. Holly Richmond, Kurt Pope, Anthony Sosa, Brittany Sirtonski, Susan Guner, Robin Divine, Dr. Bianca Sebben, Sitaram Das, Daniel Bailey, Dr. Julia Mirer, Greg Lawrence, Lorna Liana, Otto Maier, Butterfly, Eugene Alliende, Dr. Sandra Dreisbach, Bill Gallagher, Jamie Evans, Govind Das, and Mathew Hicks.
The legality of 5-MeO-DMT varies from country to country. In the U.S., 5-MeO-DMT is a Schedule I controlled substance, though in some local jurisdictions it is decriminalized (lower penalties associated with possession or use). In Mexico and Canada, 5-MeO-DMT is not a controlled substance.
